The Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) has been awarded as a Center of Excellence Severo Ochoa, granted within the subprogram of the Spanish Institutional Strengthening of the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research & Innovation, recognizes national research centers that demonstrate scientific leadership of excellence and impact at global level. The aid has been funded by the State Agency for Research (Agencia Estatal de Investigación) (CEX2020-001024-S / AEI / 10.13039 / 501100011033).

The Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) is seeking an organized, motivated, and team-oriented bioinformatician to join the recently created bioinformatics support unit. The unit is composed of three bioinformaticians and several Master’s degree students. The role will involve working as part of the team to support the research groups by developing and applying pipelines to analyze several types of Omics data. In addition, the candidate will be expected to be comfortable communicating directly with scientific researchers regarding data analysis requirements. The candidate must have previous experience in Omics data analysis and with the desire to work in a dynamic environment. This position is ideal for fast-learner candidates who enjoy taking on challenges, learning new things and have good communication skills.

Requirements:

  • Degree in bioinformatics or postgraduate studies in bioinformatics, computational biology or similar.
  • Experience of at least 2 years (preferably in academic environments).
  • Experience processing and analyzing omics data (WES, WGS, RNA-seq scRNA-seq, ChIP-seq, etc.).
  • Fluent in R, Python and Bash (GNU/Linux) scripting. Other programming languages will also be positively valued.
  • Experience in version control programming (e.g. Git) and hosting (e.g. GitHub).
  • Experience in high-performance computing environments (e.g. Slurm).
  • Experience in container systems (e.g. Docker or Singularity) is a plus.
  • Experience in Nextflow or similar workflow managers is a plus.
  • Experience with Amazon AWS or similar cloud providers is a plus.
  • Statistical modelling, machine learning and deep-learning knowledge are a plus.

The candidate is expected to have good English communication skills, both oral and written.
