Positions of Research Assistant and Research Associate (in computational biology) at University of Newcastle

Salary Research Assistant - £26,829
Research Associate - £29,301

We are looking for a computational biologist with experience in genomic and epigenomic analysis, who will join the computational biology group led by Dr. Rico focused in studying the gene regulatory programs and epigenomes of immune cells.

We offer a 2-year contract for any of the following two profiles:

  • Postdoctoral researcher (Research Associate).
  • Staff bioinformatician (Research Assistant).

You will hold a PhD in Systems Biology, Genomics or a similar discipline for Research Associate. You will hold a Master (MSci, MRes or equivalent) for Research Assistant level, where we offer the option to enrol in a MPhil program.

You will develop integrative bioinformatics approaches to interrogate publicly available transcriptomics and epigenomics datasets to identify the distinct chromatin configurations that underlie the different immune responses in men and women. Substantial practical knowledge of analysis of next generation sequencing is essential, including transcriptomics, genomic variation and epigenomics profiling.

We offer a great opportunity for professional development in a vibrant and excellent biomedical research environment. Our group is part of the cutting-edge Immunology, Immunology and Immunotherapy research theme at the Institute of Cellular Medicine and we collaborate closely with groups of the Institute of Cell and Molecular Biosciences, the Institute of Genetic Medicine and the Northern Institute of Cancer Research.
