IRB Barcelona seeks an enthusiastic programmer to join our bioinformatics team in the Molecular Modeling and Bioinformatics group (Structural Bioinformatics Program), under the framework of the Spanish National Bioinformatics Institute (INB) and two H2020 funded European projects: BioExcel and Human Brain Project.

IRB Barcelona is a self-standing, non-profit institution devoted to basic and applied biomedical research. It was set up in 2005 jointly by the Government of Catalonia and the University of Barcelona and is located at the Barcelona Science Park. The institute currently has more than 430 members (scientific, technical and administrative staff) from all over the world, who work across disciplines to advance research in the biomedical sciences.

Duties

We are looking for a candidate to work on big data projects related to Molecular Dynamics simulations, designing, developing and maintaining noSQL databases, associated APIs, and web-based graphical user interfaces to offer this data in a graphical and interactive way to the scientific community.

Our informatics team works building a bridge between researchers (biologists, chemists, physicists, mathematicians, etc.) and the computational science field, applying software best practices to the existing codes, making them more usable, reproducible and interoperable.

Profile

Must Have – Required

  • Bachelor degree or higher in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Biomedicine or similar.
  • Modern javascript development technologies: NodeJS, React
  • Fluent English and good teamwork skills.
  • Excellent Linux OS skills.
  • No previous experience in a similar position is required.

Knowledge of the following technologies is advisable

  • HTML5, CSS3, PHP
  • Scripting languages (Perl or Python)
  • noSQL databases (MongoDB or similar)
  • Statistical computing (R)
